The Wii U version of Injustice: Gods Among Us doesn't support the iOS companion app. After receiving a copy from Warner Bros., Siliconera couldn't sync up the Wii U game with the iOS app and confirmed with Warner Bros. that the functionality is not present.
The Injustice iOS app launched in April and is available as a free download, a hybrid fighter and collectible card game that allows players to unlock content in the console version of Injustice: Gods Among Us and vice versa. The Wii U version of Injustice: Gods Among Us displays a move list on the WiiPad while you play and also allows players to move the action from the TV to the WiiPad through off-TV play.

Nintendo has provided new details of its first major update to the Wii U operating system, scheduled for roll-out in late April. Central to the update will be new options to "switch data between two USB drives", according to company president Satoru Iwata. The long-awaited Wii U spring system update will also reduce loading times, quite significantly in certain respects. A recent video from Nintendo demonstrated that the update could, for example, reduce the loading time between game and operating system by more than half.

The game was first shown at E3 2012 with a new rock Pikmin that can be used to break hard objects. At the time Miyamoto said Nintendo is "developing [Pikmin 3] with the belief that we can help people understand once again the kind of fun deeper games can offer."

Nintendo's Wii U game console is getting its promised spring update next week, said company president Satoru Iwata in a Luigi-filled video presentation this morning. The update is said to launch software dramatically faster than before, as Nintendo demonstrated in a video last month. Iwata also said the update adds continuable downloads while the console is off, and that Virtual Console won't arrive until the following week -- should you wish to directly launch into the Wii menu, you'll be able to hold down the B button as the console is starting up.
That said, if you wanna play those VC games directly from the Wii U menu, you'll need to re-buy them for $1 apiece for NES games and $1.50 for SNES games. A variety of games were shown off as available at the Virtual Console's launch, including classics like Super Mario World and Punch-Out! Apparently GameBoy Advance and Nintendo 64 games are planned for inclusion on the VC in the coming months, but no definitive date was given. He also said Panorama View will arrive next week for free, and it sounds like it'll be a separate download from the software update.

April 17th, 2013, 23:50 Posted By: wraggster
Reggie Fils-Aime tells us that Fire Emblem alone sold around 80,000 units digitally; also, the pace of Wii U releases will increase "dramatically"
[h=3]Nintendo of America[/h]
Last August, Nintendo began to more fully embrace digital distribution as a way to get games in people's hands - a notable shift for a company that had previously stayed an arm's distance from the online world.
The experiment is paying off. Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, says digital downloads are fast becoming a notable contributor to the company's bottom line - and he expects the trend to continue its rapid rise.
"We have 15 Nintendo-published titles available, both physically and digitally [on the 3DS]," he says. "So far in 2013, of those 15 available in this format, 11 percent of sales have come through full digital downloads of those games."
The numbers get more impressive with some individual titles. Fils-Aime says Fire Emblem Awakening has sold 240,000 units life-to-date in the US - with one-third of those in digital form.
Fils-Aime was in the mood to talk more about the 3DS than the Wii U, given the company's plans to announce new entries in the Legend of Zelda, Yoshi's Island and Mario Party franchises at today's Nintendo Direct broadcast. And given that system's success compared to its console cousin, that's understandable.
"So far in 2013 - through April 15 - 3DS game sales are up 55 percent versus last year, counting both physical and digital"
While the Wii U has yet to gain significant traction in the market, the 3DS has become something of a surprise success story. In the first two years on the market, it sold 8 million units in the US - 1 million more than its predecessor. And game sales have kept pace.
"When the NPD numbers come out later this week, you're going to see life-to-date 3DS game sales surpass 20 million units in the US," says Fils-Aime. "And that's just physical. It doesn't include digital sales. ... So far in 2013 - through April 15 - 3DS game sales are up 55 percent versus last year, counting both physical and digital."
Fire Emblem Awakening - a digital success story for Nintendo
67 percent of all Nintendo 3DS owners have connected their 3DS to the Internet so far. And most of those have found something of interest in the eShop.
"Through that connected experience, consumers have downloaded more than 41 million items from the eShop - everything from full games to applications like Nintendo video, DLC, demos, free items, and more," says Fils-Aime.
The 3DS was criticized initially for a slow ramp of games, something Nintendo has tried to counter with releases like Luigi's Mansion (which Fils-Aime says has sold 415,000 units so far) and today's Nintendo Direct announcements. Over the next nine months, he says, "the pace is going to be dramatically ramped up."
That's also going to be true of the Wii U, he says - but it appears the company is keeping that powder dry for E3.
"What I would say about Wii U - and what Mr. Iwata has said - is that the pace of launches has been slower than we hoped. But as we prepare for E3, the pace of launches for Wii U is going to dramatically increase."
One area you shouldn't expect the company to focus on, however, is non-gaming entertainment. While competitors like Microsoft see the console as a gateway into the living room that works in conjunction with the cable box, Fils-Aime and Nintendo would prefer to stay focused on games - and they believe the same is true of Nintendo's customer base.
"The pace of [Wii U] launches has been slower than we hoped. But as we prepare for E3, the pace of launches for Wii U is going to dramatically increase"
"We believe consumers buy our systems first as a gaming system, then enjoy the other entertainment options, so that's why we're putting such a big emphasis on the gaming software," he says.
Of course, another part of that software emphasis is the coming competition this holiday period. The Wii U will be fighting Sony's PlayStation 4 (and, almost certainly, Microsoft's new Xbox) for customer dollars. Nintendo's hoping the big guns in its new software lineup outshine the launch titles of the other systems.
To win the battle, though, it helps to be in as many retail storefronts as possible - and Nintendo is absent in one of the biggest: Amazon. While the retailer sells Nintendo hardware through some of its retail partners, it has not carried the products itself for a long time.
Fils-Aime declined to say precisely why the two companies seemingly aren't able to work together on hardware sales, noting that it was ultimately Amazon's decision.
"We have programs we make available to all retailers," he says. "So then in the end, it becomes a decision by the retailer how they want to participate. Right now, Amazon is focused on selling software, but has decided not to sell hardware."

Wii U owners will have to wait a tiny bit longer to get their hands on Warner’s Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Fortunately, the delay is only a slight one – the game will arrive a week later than originally planned on Wii U on April 26th, as confirmed by CVG. The reason for the change is unknown.
Wii U owners are also missing out on the Special editions of the game
The Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of the game are still set to arrive in the UK this Friday (April 19th).
Injustice: Gods Among Us sees a host of DC superheroes such as Superman, Batman and The Flash face off in a range of spectacular settings. It’s built on the same engine as Warner’s Mortal Kombat reboot.

A new set of near field communication-enhanced toys for the Wii U action game Pokémon Scramble U will come to Japan on May 25. The game has yet to be announced for release worldwide, but it's a Pokémon game, so you should expect it.
The second series of toys includes Eevee, Mewtwo, Croagunk, Zoroark, Litwick, and Genesect, and one secret unannounced Pokémon. The NFC figures add playable characters to the game, much in the style of Skylanders.
In the Pokémon Rumble/Scramble games, all of the playable Pokemon are actually wind-up toy Pokémon – which means these figures are toy versions of toys.

Analyst forecasts yet another bad month of sales in the US for Nintendo's console and says even a price cut wouldn't be enough to help
[h=3]Nintendo of America[/h]
The NPD Group will report its US video game retail data this Thursday, and in a preview note Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter commented that he's expecting Nintendo to post yet another weak month of Wii U sales. For the Wii U's fifth month on the market, he's forecasting that Nintendo sold just 55,000 units, which would represent a 17 percent decline month-over-month. Moreover, Pachter's expecting this slide to continue for Wii U, even if Nintendo chooses to implement a price cut.
"The only key hardware device to underperform our expectations was the Wii U," Pachter said of last month's numbers, "and its fortunes appear unlikely to improve for several months, even if Nintendo decides to drop price, as there are an insufficient number of core titles that are generating interest in the console. We think that core gamers are far more likely to turn their attention to the PS4 (due in the holiday season) and the next Xbox, which we believe will be unveiled before E3 and have a launch alongside that of the PS4, and believe that the long-term appeal of the Wii U will be severely limited by the perception that the PS4 and next Xbox will be much more powerful with greater online integration and multimedia functionality."
And if the pricing on the PS4 and next Xbox is reasonable, it could really put Wii U in a bind, Pachter added: "Should the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft be price competitive, we think that Wii U sales may continue to stagnate." In fact, Pachter believes that next-gen consoles are likely to be subsidized and will therefore look even more affordable to consumers.
"We think that the next-generation consoles will perform a wide range of multimedia functions. We should learn more in the coming months, but we expect the next Xbox to have an IPTV tuner that will allow an MSO to deliver services over the Internet outside of the MSO's regulated geographic boundaries. If we are right, any of Microsoft's MSO partners will have an incentive to subsidize the purchase of the next Xbox in exchange for a long-term service commitment (similar to the cell phone model). If the subsidies are steep, it is likely that the next Xbox will appear more affordable to many consumers than currently anticipated, and it may capture market share faster than many expect. We don't expect Sony to sit idly by watching, and believe that the PS4 will follow Microsoft's lead in short order, suggesting to us that next-generation consoles could have lower starting prices than any in history," he said.
As for March retail game sales overall, Pachter expects the numbers to be up slightly (just one percent) thanks to big AAA releases like Gears of War: Judgment, Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite.

QUBE, the first game to come out of (the pockets of) Indie Fund, is on its way to Wii U and maybe Vita, according to a series of messages on the game's officialTwitter. Toxic Games reveals a picture of QUBE running on the Wii U (shown above), along with the note that it "can't wait to get this out." As for a Vita version, Toxic responds to an inquiry with, "Quite possibly!"
QUBE launched on PC in December 2011 – and we found it to be "a delightful on-screen Rubik's Cube" – and made its way to Mac one year later, in December 2012. The game recouped its $90,000 development cost in just four days, selling more than 12,000 copies on Steam in that time.

Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien - Gaijin Games' follow-up to Bit.Trip Runner - is due out on the European Wii U eShop on 11th April, the developer announced on its Facebook page.It came out in February on XBLA, PC and the North American Wii U eShop and PSN. The PC version costs £11.99, so presumably the Wii U one will cost the same, or thereabouts. Vita and iOS versions are due this summer, and the EU PSN version is still to be dated. Our Simon Parkin quite liked Gaijin's latest rhythmic auto-runner. "Its true treasure is to be found in the marriage of rhythm and platforming - an inventive concoction shrouded in the guise of a plain auto-runner," said Parkin in his 8/10 Runner2 review. "Future Legend of Rhythm Alien may be a pre-emptively boastful title, but in its quiet, unassuming way, Gaijin Games has once again struck gold."
